Appearance
Personality:
Starfire has always been a cheerful and sensitive girl, with a good sense of humor. Her father secretly worried that she might not be cut out for the seriousness and responsibilities associated with leading the Tamaranean people. He did admit, however, that her extroverted nature and her tendency to socialize with everyone was a very desirable trait in a queen. Her seemingly supernatural ability to cause people to like her spoke well for her ability to deal with difficult foreign dignitaries.
In the last two years however, Starfire has undergone a great deal of suffering- she has been betrayed by her sister, seen her parents murdered and her people enslaved, she has been tortured and raped…and now she finds herself all alone on an unknown planet. She is scared and confused, unsure of who to trust. She is unable to sleep, for that is when she is subject to nightmares as she remembers her time as a prisoner of the Citadel and her sister.
Starfire doesn’t want to live her life this way, however. She hates feeling afraid and helpless and hopes that somehow she will find a way to love and trust others once again. And despite her preoccupation with her own pain, Starfire is unwilling to see any other sentient being exploited through manipulation or intimidation. Having suffered so much, she believes no one should have to feel the way she does. Nothing enrages her more than seeing thugs take advantage of the helpless, for it reminds her of her own people’s plight under the invasion of the enemy forces known as the Citadel.
Abilities:
Equipment:
Starfire relies on her alien abilities rather than equipment.
Weaknesses:
As her powers are fueled by sunlight, constant deprivation from sun exposure weakens her powers until she is nearly as powerless as a human. Although resistant to physical harm, Starfire is not immortal, and if she takes enough damage she risks death like anyone else. Starfire is also vulnerable to the energy emitted by her sister’s own starbolts. Additionally, Starfire possesses emotional vulnerabilities, due to being all alone on a foreign planet and having endured torture and rape in the not-so-distant past. She is frequently plagued by nightmares when she tries to fall asleep.
Background:
Kriand’r was born on the planet Tamaran, as the Younger of two daughters born to the Tamaran Royal family. It was initially thought that her older sister, KOMAND’r, would be the future queen. However, when a physician revealed to the king and queen that only their younger daughter possessed the Typical Tamaranean ability to harness solar energy for flight, they decided to make Koriand’r heir to the throne instead. They felt it would not do to have a cripple on the throne.
Koriand’r held no desire to rule others, though. Oh, she liked some of the special treatment she received from her parents, but the empathic saw how much it hurt her older sister to see Koriand’r being brought up to be the future Queen. Koriand’R begged her parents to let Komand’r take her rightful place as the heir to the throne. When they refused, Kory attempted to assuage her sister’s anger at her. She took a plate of her sister’s favorite sweets to Komand’r’s room late one night as a peace offering. Kory was shocked when her sister threw the sweets in her face and screamed at her to get out, cursing at her younger sister. Shocked by the degree of her sister’s outrage. When their parents came to investigate what was going on, Komand’r claimed that Kory had come to torment her on her disability.
When Kory was eleven, she and her sister were taken another planet for combat training. When Komand’r attempted to kill her younger sister, she was exiled from Tamaran. Kory, shaken but alive, returned home to continue being groomed for the throne.
A few years later, Tamaran was invaded by a group of Aliens belonging to a group called the citadel. Kory’s parents were killed in the invasion and Kory was forced into slavery. to her horror, Kory learned that she was to be sold to her sister, who had helped the citadel by sharing information on Tamaran’s defenses. In return, she received her younger sister as a slave.
Komand’r (who by this time had taken the name Blackfire) endured torture at the hands of her sister and rape at the hands of others. When Kory managed to kill one of her rapists, Komand’r sentenced her sister to death. Before the sentence could take effect, though, both Tamaran sisters were captured by a group of aliens known as Psions. The aliens experimented on the sisters, and as a result Kory and her sister both gained the ability to project energy blasts or “starbolts.” Komand’r was also cured of her disability.
Tamaran military vessels attacked the Psion ship the sisters were held onboard, and in the confusion Starfire managed to get free and acquire a Psion spacecraft, which she used to travel to the nearest liveable planet…Earth.
Upon arriving upon Earth, Koriand’r did her best to settle into a life like that of the locals and to try and understand their culture. She was taken into custody by the U.S. government until she was deemed to not be a threat to national security. She was allowed freedom and help in establishing a life on Earth in return for information regarding her species and homeworld, as well as an agreement to defend the security interests of the United States.
Upon her release, Koriand’r established the name Kory Anders and was able to obtain her first job on Earth as a fashion model in Metropolis. Her first act of superheroics was stopping a mugging as she walked home from work. Kory was unprepared for the amount of gratitude she received from the mugging victim for what Kory considered to be a simple act, and the feelings of self-worth it generated in her to actually be able to help someone. She resolved to take the identity of Starfire and continue to work to prevent crime in her new home city.

Abilities:
- solar energy absorption- Tamaraneans, much like Kryptonians, utilize sunlight as their primary source of energy. The ability to harness sunlight is also crucial to a Tamaranean’s ability to fly and utilize superhuman strength.
- superhuman strength- on average, a Tamaranean can lift ten times as much weight as a human with the same muscle mass
- flight- a Tamaranean is able to fly
- telepathic language acquisition- through a simple touch, a Tamaranean can access the language centers of another sentient creature’s brain. This allows for the Tamaranean to speak foreign languages fluently within minutes.
- superhuman durability- a Tamaranean’s body is far more resilient to harm than a humans, though not invulnerable to harm like that of a Kryptonian under a yellow sun. For example, a bullet wound that would almost instantly kill a human would severely injure a Tamaranean.
- starbolts- as the result of tampering with her Tamaranean DNA, Starfire can emit the energy she receives from sunlight in the form of emerald blasts of energy called starbolts

Koriand’r stumbled away from the badly-damaged spacecraft, which was now sitting in a crater on the planet she had crash-landed on. The last damage reports she had received before systems had failed indicated that it would take several weeks in a shipyard to repair the damage. She didn’t know whether this planet even had the proper facilities to make such repairs. Assuming there were sentient beings on this planet who had the facilities and were willing to help her out…what would she do? She had nowhere to return home to. Her best bet was to try and make her living on this new unknown planet. Even though all she knew about it was that the air was breathable, there was evidence of some level of urbanization and industry, and that there were a variety of life forms on the planet.
Pinkish-red blood dripped down into her eyes and she wiped it away. A piece of shrapnel from the crash had lodged itself in her thigh. Grunting with pain, she managed to tear it out. Now she had to look for something to try and seal the wound with…there should be emergency medical supplies in the cockpit, right? She forced her way back inside, having to push aside large chunks of displaced metal in order to get to her destination. She managed to find the medical supplies as well as some survival gear. Of course, it being a Psion spacecraft, everything was designed for Psion biology. Whether or not it would be of any use to her she had no idea. She managed to inject herself with something that was supposed to aid in blood coagulation and to tie a bandage around the wound.
Taking what gear she could, she headed out to explore the new world that might well be her next home.
